There are countless reasons for choosing a career in massage. Most of our students say their number one motivation is their sincere desire to help and heal others. But earning your massage license comes with other perks too: The freedom of setting your own schedule (assuming you choose to set up an independent practice); not feeling trapped in an office cubicle, and the joy of working with your hands, to name a few.

With that said, it’s not always easy to leave the stable job you currently have for the new career you crave. And even those who are kicking off their first career may have questions and concerns about life as a massage therapist. Our Massage College Preview (MCP) Events can help in both instances. At our next MCP on October 18th, you’ll have the chance to have all your questions answered by professional Licensed Massage Therapists (LMTs) and administrators at East West College. If you’ve been contemplating a career in medical or sports massage therapy, or any other style of massage, we highly recommend attending this event. It will give you a better feel for our school, as well as massage as a career.

Our MCP events are held on our campus, at 525 NE Oregon Street in Portland, Oregon. Here’s the event schedule for that day:

Q&A Session: 10:00am to 12:00pm
From finances to licensure and beyond, this section of the MCP is intended to answer all your questions about becoming an LMT. What is a day in the life of an LMT like? What do you need to learn to become a licensed massage therapist? What positions are available in the massage field? We’ll cover these and many other queries. A Licensed Massage Therapist will be on hand, providing a professional perspective. And an East West College admissions representative will answer your questions about the school. A campus tour will also be provided during this time.

Introductory Massage Course: 12:30pm to 3:30pm
Massage is definitely a career in which hands on experience is helpful. In this second session of the MCP, an East West College instructor will provide an introductory massage class covering the basics: How to set up a massage table, draping clients appropriately, and how to perform basic massage strokes. Attendees will be working in pairs, so bring a buddy or be ready to be matched up with one on that day. It’s also a good idea to wear loose clothing that is easy to move in.
