Today we’re introducing our on-campus massage clinic, where East West College students have the chance to practice their trade, and clients have the chance to relax and heal. The East West College Massage Clinic also retains alumni licensed massage therapists who provide expert therapy to the public as well. Let’s take a look at the function of the clinic, how the clinic works, and what you can expect upon visiting the clinic.
Earning a Massage Therapist License: How the East West College Clinic Helps
We operate the clinic to share the gift of massage with the community, and to give our eager students the chance to practice what they learn in our classes. In order to receive a massage therapist license in the state of Oregon, students must complete hundreds of hours of hands-on training. With our clinic located on the third floor of our building (525 NE Oregon Street), it’s easy for students to clock their required hours.
How the Massage Clinic Works: Setting an Appointment
You may set an appointment through our clinic website anytime. Clinic appointments may also be made over the phone by calling the main East West College line, 503-233-6500. Alternatively, you may set an appointment in person at the East West College bookstore, on the first floor at 525 NE Oregon Street. Phone and in-person appointment setting is available during our normal business hours, Monday through Friday from 9 am to 6:30 pm, and Saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm.
When setting your appointment, you will have the opportunity to voice your preference for a male or female massage therapist. In general, our weekend sessions with alumni massage therapists tend to fill quickly; there is often more open appointment availability on weekdays.
When East West College Massage Clinic Sessions Are Available
Our clinic’s schedule shifts from semester to semester. During the summer of 2014, we’ve offered student massage appointments during 12 different blocks, Monday through Thursday. Oftentimes, we offer appointments at 11:40am and 4:30pm or 6:30pm. To view the current massage schedule, visit our clinic website at eastwestcollege.com/clinic.
Students and Alumni Massage Appointment Rates
Student massages at the East West College clinic are $25 for 45 minutes of massage. Our Alumni massage appointments are $50 for an hour, or $70 for 90 minutes. Additionally, we offer a 25% discounts on massage packages of five or more.
If you must cancel, we require a 24-hour notification. Should you fail to show up or cancel within 24 hours, you will be responsible for half the price of your session.
What to Expect During your Massage Clinic Visit
When you arrive for your appointment, clinic receptionists will hand you a clipboard with a brief form to fill out. In this form, you’ll describe any specific pain, tenderness, or tightness you’ve experienced recently. Soon, your assigned massage therapist will meet with you to discuss the plan for your massage. This gives our students the chance to practice client communication skills, and it allows you to ensure your needs will be met. Next, the student meets with an instructor to get his or her massage treatment plan approved. With this done, you will be escorted to the massage treatment room, and your session will begin.
