Homework, Study, and Massage Practice
Learning massage therapy and its related sciences require intensive study and
practice. The program at East West is college level course work. Because of this,
East West College programs are designed to allow significant time for integration
and absorption of the material. Our massage training programs take a minimum
of 12 months to complete, but students with difficulties in academics should
consider taking the part-time program with fewer courses per term and aim to
complete their programs over a longer period of time. The science courses
(especially Kinesiology and Anatomy/Physiology) require a great deal of reading,
palpation, practice, and study. Prospective students who may have difficulties in
these areas should consider taking a single science course only, rather than in
combination with another course. The amount of outside class time required
depends on a student's time management skills and academic ability. Students
can generally expect to spend 1 to 2 hours outside of class for every hour in class.
For example, if you attend classes the normal 12 hours per week, you can expect
to spend an additional 12 to 24 hours per week outside of class doing homework,
studying and practicing massage for class assignments.
